History
Amanda Spielman, Ofsted’s Chief Inspector, said: “A good history education is so important to children’s education. Studying history helps children to understand their place in the world, and in the long story of human development. And it challenges them to make sense of the similarities and differences in human experiences across time and place.”
The history curriculum at Stimpson Avenue has the framework from Ofsted at its core but with additional ambitions for our children. Our history curriculum teaches our children how to be critical thinkers and how to examine evidence. Stimpson historians learn how to compare key historical figures and key events to the modern world. The children also learn how to understand how and why certain events have happened. These ambitious aims were recently recognised in our Ofsted visit in July 2023.
Ofsted stated: “Leaders have worked hard to construct an ambitious curriculum. It meets the needs of all pupils at Stimpson Avenue. The curriculum sets out the knowledge leaders want pupils to know right from the early years to Year 6. Leaders help pupils to develop their enthusiasm and curiosity for all the subjects they study.”
To improve our curriculum even further we have made some slight adjustments to some of the topics we will be teaching.
Historical skills will still be taught alongside historical knowledge.
The Stimpson history curriculum will ensure that the themes and skills become second nature to our critical thinking citizens of the future.
