Music
At Stimpson, our aim is to continuously improve the music education we offer to our pupils and our aim is that every child accesses both formal and informal music across their time at school. Recent research from Youth Music and Ipsos MORI states that “music is integral to young people’s lives". Therefore, we aim to enrich their school lives with music too.
Music is taught during whole-class music lessons each week. We follow Sing Up’s New Music Curriculum which introduces children to different genres, instruments, and composers. Children learn songs relating to different themes over the year. They also have opportunities to play instruments and understand musical notation.
Music supports “building a brain that is well equipped for life” and it is our hope is that every child reaps these benefits as they progress through school. Pupils at Stimpson engage in a range of extra-curricular activities, including Choir and Music Club, instrument lessons and performances, and Rock Steady bands. We also work closely with Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT) to provide a range of experiences with external experts.
Our aim is for music to be woven throughout the day at Stimpson. We hope that when our children go home, they share music they have heard or made with their families. And we always have an open invitation for families to share their musical talents with us.
