PSHE
At Stimpson, PSHE is so much more than a weekly lesson. It is like the golden thread which runs through our community. It links closely to both our school and British Values, our behaviour curriculum, Zones of Regulation, sense of community and celebrating each other.
To teach PSHE, we use a scheme of work called Jigsaw; it is a whole-school approach with many layers above and beyond the lesson plans themselves. The aim is to support children to feel a strong sense of belonging and community.
Jigsaw is also a carefully thought-through progressive programme with a full set of attainment descriptors and an assessment process embedded throughout.
Jigsaw is a mindful approach to PSHE. Throughout every year group, at the beginning of each lesson, there is a Calm Me time, which is designed to teach children techniques to relax their bodies and calm their minds. This is being used to great effect and impacting positively on children’s ability to concentrate, to connect well with each other and most importantly to be more aware of and better able to manage their feelings and thought processes.
