Stimpson Avenue Academy has been awarded a gold quality mark in recognition of its ‘impressive’ teaching of history.
The quality mark is awarded by the Historical Association to schools that demonstrate excellence in teaching history in an engaging and impactful way for pupils.
Stimpson Avenue Academy was praised for its strong history curriculum, which includes topics such as the 1675 Great Fire of Northampton in Year 2 and Walter Tull, the first black officer in the British Army and professional footballer, in Year 6.
The school also earned recognition for its extra-curricular history club and its well-planned enrichment trips to complement learning in lessons.
The assessment report from the Historical Association said: “History makes a very positive contribution to learning because of the school and subject leader’s impressive momentum to drive and sustain change.”
Head of School Luci Clapton said: “I am incredibly proud that the strength of our history curriculum has been recognised with this gold quality mark.
“Our history lead Brian Williams is passionate about his subject and works hard to make sure our pupils receive engaging history lessons, delivered by teachers who are well-equipped and motivated.”
