Stimpson Avenue Academy has been awarded a gold School Games award in recognition of its commitment to sport and physical activity.
The gold award is given to schools who can demonstrate a broad and balanced offer of sport and PE which targets all pupils, including those who are less physically active.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme run by the Youth Sport Trust. Stimpson Avenue Academy, part of the East Midlands Academy Trust, secured its gold award by meeting a set of strict criteria. This included getting at least 50% of pupils involved in extracurricular sport outside of timetabled PE lessons every week and competing in a minimum number of inter-school competitions.
Chris Osborne, sport and engagement lead at Stimpson Avenue Academy, said: “It’s really important for us to get pupils involved in physical activity, especially those who wouldn’t otherwise take part in sport. “We’re really pleased to have received the gold School Games award and to be recognised for our commitment to getting our children more active.” The school now plans to work towards the platinum award.
